CASA is excited to announce the receipt of two grants from the National CASA Association aimed at increasing the number of children to be served over the next two years. The grants, totaling $75,500 will support the work of professional case supervisors and volunteer CASA advocates in serving 75 new children per year over the next two years and training at least 30 new CASA volunteer advocates during that time. In 2013, CASA was only able to serve 20% of the over 900 children who pass through Delaware County’s dependency system each year.

Here’s how:

  • Low CASA caseloads mean the courts can make better decisions for children. CASA volunteers handle just one or two cases at a time, so they can give each child’s case the sustained, personal attention he or she deserves.
  • Children with CASA volunteers spend 7.5 months less in foster care, experience fewer out of home placements and have significantly improved educational performance.
  • More than 90% of children with CASA volunteers NEVER reenter the child welfare system, a significant difference compared with the general foster care population.
