Color Run Banner

Kappa Alpha Theta hosted a 5k Color Run through the beautiful Swarthmore College campus on September 19 with all proceeds going to benefit Delaware County CASA. The campus was filled with music, laughter, and painted students (and CASA staff). Pancakes at the end of the run completed the terrific event. CASA thanks the young women at Kappa Alpha Theta for their enthusiasm, energy, and dedication to being of service within their community. Co-Chairs Elizabeth Teerlink and Isabel Clay knocked it out of the park, and CASA looks forward to working with them again next year.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order.

CASA is proud to announce the receipt of a grant of $3,000 from the Emergency Aid of Pennsylvania Foundation. This funding will be used to support our advocacy for abused and neglected children who have been adjudicated dependent in Delaware County. Every grant we receive helps us serve more of the over 900 children who pass through the dependency court each year. Over 700 of these children go into foster care or a residential facility and over 200 receive services in their own homes with court oversight and supervision.
