Our Vision: A CASA for Every Child

Since 1992, CASA Youth Advocates has worked to ensure that children in Delaware County’s child welfare system have safe, permanent, and nurturing homes. CASA recruits and trains volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates to advise the courts on the best interests of an abused or neglected child, with support and guidance from CASA’s professional staff of social workers and attorneys. In 2015, CASA expanded services to Chester County children.

CASA served 303 of our region’s vulnerable children in 2023. Although we’ve more than doubled the number of cases we’ve served in the last ten years, that’s still only 50% of the children who could benefit from the support of a CASA volunteer.

We know that CASA works. The research is clear. We just need you and your support to bring CASA to every child who needs it.

50% of the children in the child welfare system could still benefit from the support of a CASA advocate in their corner.

Advocate of the Year:
Laura Gribben

Laura Gribben is CASA of Delaware and Chester counties’ 2024 Advocate of the Year. A volunteer since April of 2021, Laura knew that being a CASA was for her as soon as she heard about it from a friend. She has nieces and a nephew who joined her family through the foster care system and adoption, and she saw first-hand the need to support children who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Laura’s favorite thing about being a CASA is spending time with the children and youth she serves. She currently has three cases, serving 13 children in total.

Laura’s advice to anyone who’s interested in being a CASA? Just give it a shot.

“You won’t see a difference overnight, but you will make a positive impact in their lives. Once you get to see that, you will stick with it,” Laura said.

Community Impact Award:
Holy Child School at Rosemont

Holy Child School at Rosemont is CASA’s first Community Impact Award honoree. In 2022, Holy Child School at Rosemont began providing holiday gifts for CASA children and youth as part of the school’s “Advent Angel Project.”

Since then, Holy Child School at Rosemont families have continued their Advent Angel Project by fulfilling Christmas wish lists of CASA children and youth.  Last year, they supported 175 children.

“The Holy Child Schools all have a central mission of service, with service-learning being a key part of our school community. It’s so important for our students and families to join together in service to others. Helping children and youth in need during the Advent Season is a wonderful hands-on lesson for our students.” said Brian McBride, Holy Child School at Rosemont’s Head of School.

“CASA is so grateful for the support of the students and families of Holy Child School at Rosemont,” says Leigh Anne McKelvey, Executive Director of CASA of Delaware and Chester Counties. “We were so overwhelmed by their generosity as many vans full of beautiful gifts arrived over the holidays.  Their Advent Angel Project ensured that many of our CASA youth have happy holidays.”
